Carols by Candlelight returns to Speers Point Park
Published on 10 December 2021
Award-winning country music singer Kirsty Lee Akers is set to headline a star-studded Lake Mac Carols by Candlelight at Speers Point Park on Sunday 12 December.
Akers, who hails from Wangi Wangi, will perform a festive set to top off the landmark lakeside event, making a welcome return in 2021 after COVID forced its cancellation last year.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said it’s so exciting to be hosting events in Lake Mac once again.
“Carols by Candlelight at Speers Point Park is a festive tradition for families right across the Hunter Region, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic evening of fun and entertainment.”
Hosted by Hit106.9FM’s Nick, Jess and Ducko, the 3-9pm event will also feature former Hi-5 performer Tim Harding, former The Voice contestant Kylie Jane, RnB singer Komiti and veteran local singer Terrance Wakewood.
Ms Hemsley said the new Multi-Arts Pavilion (MAP) mima would also be open as a second stage, hosting local musicians Chloe Gill, Honey Duo and Matt Cross.
And Santa is expected to make an appearance – flying in by seaplane for a 7pm visit.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the event had long been a favourite on the city’s social calendar.
“I can’t wait to get out there on Sunday and see thousands of smiling faces,” Cr Fraser said.
“After what we’ve all been through this year and last, it’s a great opportunity to get together and celebrate the festive spirit.”
The Lake Mac Ferry will operate a return service from Belmont and Toronto to Speers Point for the event, with bookings essential.
Festival partner Homegrown Markets will operate festively themed boutique markets, while food trucks will offer a range of cuisines throughout the event.
Guests are to be double-vaccinated and check in via QR code.
Council will also host its IncludingYOU tent, providing a place for people with sensory needs to enjoy the event. It will include noise-cancelling headphones, sensory toys, weighted blankets and other equipment for use free of charge.
