Under the Protection of the Environment Operations (Underground Petroleum Storage System) Regulation 2019, local councils have reassumed responsibility for regulating Underground Petroleum Storage Systems (UPSS). UPSSs are generally located at service stations throughout the local government area. Under the regulation, councils are the Appropriate Regulatory Authority and can conduct site visits requesting compliance information.
As part of Council’s commitment to ensuring healthy environments, we will be inspecting all UPSS sites to ensure compliance in order to protect the health of the environment and the public.
