What can go in my garbage bin
- plastic wrap (cling and Glad wrap)
- plastic bags
- broken glass (wrapped in newspaper)
What can't go in my garbage bin
- large pieces of timber or large pieces of building waste
- gas cylinders and fire extinguishers
- liquid wastes such as chemicals, paints and oils
- household and car batteries
- explosive, flammable, corrosive, toxic or radioactive wastes
- pharmaceutical, clinical and sharps wastes

- Leave your bin on the kerb by 5.30am on collection day.
- Place bins at least one metre apart.
- The maximum weight of your garbage bin is 80 kilograms.
- Ensure lids are fully closed.
- Do not place bins behind parked vehicles, too close to poles and fences, under overhanging trees, on street corners or at the end of cul-de-sacs.
- When disposing of nappies please scrape solids into the toilet and wrap the nappy into a ball using the plastic tabs to seal. You may also like to wrap it in a plastic bag.

What if my garbage bin is stolen or needs replacing
As the garbage bin is owned by the property owner, if you need a new garbage bin, you can purchase a 240L bin (or 140L bin if your strata property has a downsize strata waste package) online with your credit card and have it delivered to your property. Fees and charges apply.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to pick up your new bin,EFTPOS payments will be accepted at Council Depot at 18-32 Creek Reserve Road, Boolaroo from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Cash payments will only be accepted at our Customer Service Centre at the Administration Building, from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, at 126-138 Main Road, Speers Point.
We can dispose of your old bin for you when your new bin is delivered. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please ensure that your old bin is placed out for collection on the kerb at the front of the property and that the bin is empty. If there is any rubbish remaining in the bin, the bin will be unable to be collected when the new bin is delivered. If you choose to have your new bin delivered, the delivery will occur between one to two days after the next scheduled garbage collection day for the suburb.
240 litre or 140 litre garbage bins can also be purchased from selected hardware stores. If you choose this option, ensure that the bin complies with Australian Standard 4123 for mobile waste containers to allow Council to repair the bin if it is damaged during collection.

The garbage bin is owned by the property owner. If you already own a garbage bin, you can simply take it to the new property and only request the other two bins to be delivered.
If you need a new garbage bin for your new service, you can purchase one as part of your service application and have it delivered to your property, or purchase one from a hardware store. If you choose to purchase a bin from Council and have it delivered, the bin will be delivered as soon as possible (which is generally within 3 business days after receiving the application for the new bin). Special needs waste collection
Council provides a special needs waste collection service, commonly known as a Blue Dot Service for those who are unable to take their bin to and from the kerb due to a medical condition. Council will collect your bin from an agreed location from your property and return it to you emptied.
To apply for a Blue Dot Service, please complete and return the Blue Dot Service application form signed by your general practitioner.
Condition of service
Council reserves the right to establish alternative bin collection locations for residents and businesses as a condition of service provision, to ensure safe and efficient waste collection operations.
