Description
Want to help make Lake Macquarie plastic bag free? Then join with the Cardiff Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group (CASNG), The Canopy, and a bunch of fun-loving volunteers with sewing machines, to help sew recycled fabric into shopping or produce bags. Even if you don't have your own sewing machine there are always "non-sewing" jobs to do - if you can use a pair of scissors you'll fit right in. There are also some spare machines available for use, and if you can use a machine you’ll be able to help. We have the fabric, a warm and friendly space to work in, some tea, coffee and nibbles to keep you going, and a great, friendly, co-operative place to spend a few hours once a month on a Sunday. The Canopy distribute the completed bags to the local community, saving thousands of plastic bags from being used and thrown away. We estimate that over 60,000 plastic bags have been stopped from entering the environment over the past 15 months. Come once - come along every time! Workshops are held on the last Sunday of every month. Accessible car park and fairly level path to library - suits wheelchairs & walkers, and work is usually done seated. This event is free, and it is not necessary to have a sewing machine.
