Caring for our environment

There are many ways you can join your community to help care for and protect the local natural environment.

Community Ecosystem Monitoring

Our Community Ecosystem Monitoring Program measures the health of our city's natural areas through long-term monitoring.

Council staff and community volunteers survey more than 50 terrestrial sites around Lake Macquarie.

The program helps engage the local community and encourages participation in ecosystem health monitoring.

Landcare in Lake Macquarie

Landcare is a volunteer organisation devoted to caring for the environment in a hands-on and practical way.

Community members can volunteer with a local Landcare group, start their own group or can volunteer at the Lake Macquarie Landcare Resource Centre and Nursery in Teralba.

Eco Angel program

The Eco Angel Program is designed to help community groups to come together to keep Lake Macquarie clean all year round.

The Eco Angel program supports community groups in hosting a clean-up event in local parks, bushland reserves or foreshore areas by providing all the necessary equipment and organising for waste disposal.
