Smart City, Smart Council

Together with the community, Lake Macquarie City Council has laid the foundation for creating a more connected, innovative and resilient city, with the adoption of the Lake Mac Smart City, Smart Council Digital Economy Strategy in 2016.

One of our priorities as a Council has been to think about how we can use smart city ideas and technology to better connect these widely dispersed communities – both physically and in the digital environment. Example initiatives include creating new spaces for start-ups, increasing access to devices and programs in our libraries to improve digital literacy, supporting local innovation and investing in digital infrastructure.

To our thinking, smart cities aren't only about technology and data – they are about ongoing innovation that gives people the opportunity to participate and enjoy inspired and connected lives.
