Other household waste
Council works with local companies to provide specialised waste disposal and recycling services for the following household items:
- e-waste (including DVDs and CDs - discs only, no cases)
- batteries and light globes
- mobile phones
- motor oil
- hazardous waste, paint and chemicals
- gas cylinders
- smoke detectors.
Household waste that cannot go into the general waste bin can be disposed of at community recycling stations, the Community Recycling Centre, at a Chemical CleanOut day or at local businesses.
Community recycling stations
The Customer Service Centre at Council's Administration Building, Council's Works Depot at Boolaroo and the six Lake Mac Libraries branches at Cardiff, Charlestown, Belmont, Morisset, Swansea and Toronto accept household batteries, fluoro tubes and globes, mobile phones and accessories, smoke detectors, and DVDs and CDs (discs only - cases should be removed and disposed of in the recycling bin).
Community Recycling Centre
The Community Recycling Centre, located at the Awaba Waste Management Facility, accepts paint, gas bottles and fire extinguishers, e-waste (including DVDs and CDs removed from their cases), fluoro tubes and globes tubes, car and household batteries, polystyrene, motor and other oils and smoke detectors.
The next Chemical CleanOut event is scheduled for 2 June at Glendale TAFE.
