Lake Macquarie City Council has welcomed the announcement of $420,000 in funding from the State Government for coastal dune revegetation, foreshore rehabilitation and wetland management in Lake Macquarie.
Manager Environmental Systems, Dean Chapman, said the funding will allow Council to implement new projects to improve natural areas at multiple sites across the City, including wetland rehabilitation at Belmont, Swansea and Bonnells Bay, dune rehabilitation works at Nine Mile Beach, Caves Beach and Catherine Hill Bay as well as foreshore rehabilitation at Eraring, Wyee and Buttaba.
“It’s great news for our local environment and adds to the millions of dollars that Council has spent in recent years on projects to improve water quality, prevent erosion and improve biodiversity.”
By collaborating with the community to develop practical solutions, we continue to show we can come up with actions to sustain and improve the health of our lake, waterways and coastline while maintaining community access and recreation in these areas.
