Date posted: 21 February 2019

Council’s next meeting will take place on Monday 25 February 2019, with an Ordinary Meeting of Council at 6.30pm. You can stream the meeting live from 6.30pm at webcast.lakemac.com.au.

Some of the items listed for discussion include:

Waste collection service update

Council will consider a proposal to ensure Council continues to meet its resource recovery obligations and maximises the life of waste management infrastructure while delivering improved waste service outcomes for all Lake Macquarie residents. The proposal includes improved promotion of opt-in additional waste collections, review of the pricing of additional garbage collections, improved support and communication to residents for the management of nappies, medical waste and hygiene products, and the ongoing supply of thicker, more durable compostable bags.

December review of the 2018/2019 Operational Plan and Budget

Council will consider a report providing an overview of Council’s performance, up until the end of the second quarter of the 2018/2019 financial year, in relation to the Delivery Program, Operational Plan and Budget. Ninety-one per cent of Operational Plan actions for 2018/2019 have either been achieved or are on track.

Lake Macquarie City place brand

Council will consider endorsing the place brand for Lake Macquarie City. The place brand for Lake Macquarie City is a strategic document developed to differentiate Lake Macquarie City’s genuine competitive advantages. It provides an overview of Lake Macquarie City as a place and an approach to communications and marketing to tell this story.

Community Event Funding

Council will consider allocating more than $40,000 to community events as part of the Community Event Funding Program. These events include:

Provision of election services

NSW local government elections are to be held in September 2020 and Council must decide on how to conduct the election process in Lake Macquarie. Council can use the services of the NSW Electoral Commission, outsource the election process to external contractor Australian Election Company or conduct the election itself. Council will consider entering into an election management arrangement with NSW Electoral Commission to conduct the local government election services.
