Register for Clean Up Australia Day
Date posted: 11 February 2019
Lake Macquarie City Council is once again calling on the community, schools and local businesses to lend a hand to tidy up our City as part of this year’s Clean Up Australia Day event on Sunday 3 March.
Last year, close to six tonnes of rubbish was removed from schools, parks, beaches, bushland and foreshore areas throughout the City by volunteers.
Council’s Sustainability Engagement Coordinator, Chris Harle, encouraged residents to organise a local clean up by registering a site for Clean Up Australia Day.
“Our residents take a great deal of pride in their city parks and reserves,” Ms Harle said.
“Clean Up Australia Day is an opportunity for our community to come together to rid their streets, parks and waterways of rubbish.
During the past 30 years, Australians have devoted more than 33 million hours towards the environment through Clean Up Australia Day and collected more than 344 thousand tonnes of rubbish.
To register your site, visit cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/register. For assistance registering a Clean Up Australia Day site, contact Clean Up Australia Day on 1800 282 329 or Council on 4921 0333.
Clean-up participants should wear enclosed shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a pair of gloves on the day.
This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
