Belmont Baths open for summer fun

Lake Macquarie’s largest swimming baths have reopened following an $850,000 revamp.

The much-anticipated Belmont Baths feature a netted swimming area 70m long and 45m wide, replacing the former baths damaged beyond repair during the April 2015 super-storm.

Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Councillor Kay Fraser, said summer was the perfect time for the baths to reopen.

“With lake water quality the best it has been for decades, these baths will provide a place for the community to enjoy one of our great natural assets.”

The new-look baths include netting around all four sides. Free parking, seats, grassed areas, shade and a free barbecue are all nearby.

The next stage of work, due to begin early this year, includes construction of a new amenities block with accessible change room and aquatic wheelchair storage, and foreshore landscaping. This stage of the project is jointly funded by the NSW Government and Lake Macquarie City Council.
