Best new architecture on display at Lake Mac Libraries

Date posted: 31 October 2018

From sportsgrounds to hospitals and university buildings to houses, some of Newcastle and the Hunter Region’s best architecture is now on display at Lake Mac Libraries.

The Australian Institute of Architects’ Newcastle Division annual awards recognise the best new architecture in Newcastle and the wider Hunter Region. The awards are also an important opportunity to celebrate Newcastle and regional members’ pursuits of design excellence, and their collaborations with architects from across NSW.

The Institute’s Architecture Awards recognise excellence and innovation in design and are conferred via a rigorous system of peer review.

The night’s top award, the Newcastle Jury Prize, went to the University of Newcastle’s new “vertical campus,” NeW Space, designed by Lyons and EJEArchitecture.

The Newcastle Architecture Awards received a record number of entries in 2018, a demonstration of the breadth of work undertaken across a numberof categories.

See this year’s entries at the Australian Institute of Architects Newcastle Architecture Awards exhibition at Cardiff and Charlestown Libraries from 3-30 November 2018.

If you are interested to be a 2019 Awards Juror, you can submit your expressions of interest before Monday 12 November. More information is available at wp.architecture.com.au/nswawards/juries.

Entries for the 2019 Newcastle Architecture Awards will open from 8 November 2018 to 5 February 2019. The winners will be announced at the Newcastle Awards Night on Friday 22 March 2019.
