Mass yoga session to kick off 2018 Living Smart Festival

Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts are expected to bend and stretch their way to wellness to kick off this year’s Living Smart Festival at Speers Point Park.

A free mass yoga class suitable for all ages and skill levels will begin at 8am at the Saturday 22 September event.

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Sustainability, Alice Howe, said the class was making a return this year after more than 200 people took part in a similar yoga event at last year’s festival.

“It is such a beautiful lakeside setting and a great way to set a happy and healthy tone for the rest of the day,” Dr Howe said.

This year’s Living Smart Festival will feature farmers markets, urban farming workshops, sustainable fashion stalls, cooking demonstrations and other workshops in keeping with the sustainable living theme.

As well as the 60-minute morning yoga session, free yoga classes for seniors and kids will be offered throughout the day.

“This is Lake Macquarie’s biggest sustainability event, and it gets better every year,” Dr Howe said.

“We have a really exciting line-up, and it is particularly topical this year with War on Waste host Craig Reucassel among our guest presenters.”

Registrations are not required for the 8am yoga class – participants can simply show up on the day with an exercise mat or towel.
