Free lesson for kids five and under at Lake Mac Swim Centres

Date posted: 13 September 2017

Lake Macquarie City Council is offering free learn-to-swim classes for kids aged five and under on Saturday 23 September, to celebrate Learn2Swim Week (23 September to 2 October).

Council’s Acting Manager Leisure Services, Jeff Green, said in a City graced with beautiful waterways and great beaches, teaching our children to swim is one of the most essential things we can do.

“Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death in children under five worldwide, and in Australia, one person on average drowns every week. Teaching children to swim early is the best prevention and at Lake Mac, we want to support our community.”

“To celebrate Learn2Swim Week, we’re offering 20 per cent off the first week of our school holiday intensive learn-to-swim program, Monday 25 to Friday 29 September at Charlestown, West Wallsend and Swansea Swim Centres. Get in quick, places are limited.”

“We also offer learn-to-swim classes during the school term. Our fun and affordable lessons will teach your child the life-long skill of swimming so they can be comfortable, strong and happy in the water,” Mr Green said.

Don’t miss our free First Aid sessions during Learn2Swim Week, just pay the pool entrance fee. These sessions will teach you how to perform CPR on children and adults, what to do when children are choking and general water safety and first aid skills.

“We partner with Royal Life Saving and follow the 'Swim and Survive' program which focuses on essential water safety skills as well as learning to swim. Our instructors are AUSTSWIM or equivalent accredited, and have a wealth of experience with more than 33,000 attendances at learn-to-swim classes in the last year alone,” Mr Green said.
