The Living Smart Festival promises to be a fun day out for you to explore how you can adopt sustainable practices in your everyday life. We have more than 100 market stalls this year who have made pledge to adopt sustainable living practices.

Festival highlights 


Learn how to achieve magazine styles on a small budget with Eco-stylist and blogger, Faye De Lanty who will be on hand to share her tips and styling advice. Be inspired by the Festival's first pre-loved fashion parade and then hunt for a one-of-a-kind gem at the on-site Salvos Stores pop-up boutique. 

Food lovers

Learn how to cleanse your body at a juicing demonstration, discover the secrets to sustainable eating, learn how to prepare a delicious plant-based feast for your friends and get tips on creating a lunchbox your kids will love.

Plus, you can pick up your fresh produce at the Lake Macquarie City Farmers Markets.

Backyard inspiration

Get hands on advice about worm farming, composting, chickens, bees, vertical gardens and wicking gardens. Plus, there is an awesome cubby house you can win on the day!

Health and well-being

Kick-start the day with a free outdoor yoga session, attend one of the Whole Living workshops or explore the many market stalls with products to help you look after yourself, inside and out.

For the kids

Let the children explore their senses in our play zone with mud kitchens, drumming, reptile shows, face painting, Hunter Valley Petting Zoo, craft activities and dreamtime stories.

Your community

Connect with your local sustainable neighbourhood group, discover what sustainability programs we have on offer and meet the faces behind your local Emergency Services.

Free transport and parking

Ride your bike, skateboard or scooter and take advantage of our free valet service.

Catch the tram from Croudace Bay or Toronto, or hop on board Thomas the train from our Depot, Boolaroo. Check the transport timetable for details.

Car parking is limited at Speers Point Park. Parking locations close by include Council's Administration Building, Warners Bay or the Council Depot.

Native Plant Giveaway

Back by popular demand, Lake Mac residents can collect their two free plants on the day.

To receive your plants, just present proof of Lake Macquarie residency at the Native Plant Giveaway stall.

For accessibility information on the day of the Festival, visit the Lake Macquarie City Council information stall at the main entrance of Speers Point Park.

Australian Breastfeeding Association

The Australian Breastfeeding Association will be at the Festival to provide a quiet feeding and changing tent for parents and infants.
