We are accepting expressions of interest from experts in planning, architecture, heritage, the environment, urban design, land economics, traffic and transport, law, engineering, or tourism, to become a member of the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Planning Panel.

Who will be on the panel?
The regional planning panel consists of five members: three independent experts appointed by the Minister and two representatives recommended by Council.
We are seeking two nominees (one fixed and one casual) for this part-time appointment, to represent Lake Macquarie City Council on the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Planning Panel.
Why does Council need a regional planning panel?
The Environmental Planning and Assessment Act requires the establishment of Regional Planning Panels to undertake the functions of the consent authority under Part 4 of the Act, for regionally significant development and other functions as specified.
Tapping into the knowledge and experience of local experts will help us to ensure that regionally significant development achieves the best outcomes social, environmental, and economical outcomes for the Hunter, Central Coast, and even further afield.
What will be the role of the Regional Planning Panel?
The Panel will:
- provide independent expert advice;
- carry out assessment of development proposals, as the consent authority, for regionally significant development;
- conduct site visits and examine how the proposed developments will relate to the streetscape, neighbourhood, and region;
- attend briefing meetings, site inspections and Panel meetings as required.
The appointment will for a term of three years and members will be paid for attendance of each meeting.

Who is eligible?
We are seeking qualified, skilled, and experienced experts who have the ability to assess regionally significant development proposals against relevant Acts and Regulations.
However, you will not eligible if you are:
(a)a property developer (or a person who is a close associate of a property developer) within the meaning of section 96GB of the Election Funding, Expenditure and Disclosures Act 1981, or
(b)a real estate agent within the meaning of the Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 2002.

Council is also seeking expressions of interest from highly experienced architects, landscape architects, and urban designers to become a member of the Lake Macquarie City Council Design Review Panel.
It is a paid advisory role where you can contribute to improving the quality of designs of apartment developments across the City.
