Home security

There’s no need to go to extremes

Lake Macquarie is a safe and friendly place to live and work but we can’t rely on that reputation when it comes to our own home security.

So, while it is important to take home security seriously, there’s no need to go to extremes.

Follow these three simple tips to improve your home security.

Lock it

The best way to prevent home burglary is to make it harder for offenders to get into your home in the first place. Lock all doors and windows, even when you are home or if you will only be away for a short time (like picking up children from school).

Light it

Most home burglaries occur when the home is unoccupied. You can make it look like someone is home by leaving lights on inside the house at night. You might also keep a radio or TV playing.

Label it

It is harder for offenders to sell stolen property that is clearly marked with the owner’s details. It also makes it easier for Police to return property to its rightful owner. Label your valuables with a personal identification number (like your driver licence number) by using marker pens, engraving tool or microtags.
