National Youth Week

Youth Week is a celebration of young people and their contribution to the local community.

NSW Youth Week runs from 10-18 April 2019. This year Council is funding seven events around Lake Mac.

Let’s celebrate young people and the organisations in Lake Macquarie who provide support to our youth at the following events:

11 April, 5pm-9pm Join in on a youth skate, scooter and bike competition at The Chip Bowl. This event will build on the efforts of Eastlake Youth Centre to work with young people to positively activate community spaces in the Charlestown area. Cardiff RSL
45 Macquarie Road, Cardiff

12 April, 9.30am-2.30pm Participate in self-defence classes, a DJ workshop or OzHarvest healthy food demonstrations. The expo will also include stalls and activities that address mental health, domestic violence awareness, employment support, healthy living and volunteering opportunities. Pasterfield Sports Complex

Horizon Avenue, Cameron Park

13 April, 11am-3pm The festival will celebrate the creativity of young people through activities including an open mic for local musicians, street art workshop, a skate and scooter demonstration and loads more. Proudly presented by Northlakes Youth Services Free event open to the public

Belmont Neighbourhood Centre

359 Pacific Highway, Belmont North

15 April, 11am-1.30pm This expo will focus on self-empowerment towards being healthy and looking after your own wellbeing. The event will include a healthy lunch, games and activities designed to break down barriers between young people and increase their sense of self-esteem. Proudly presented by Belmont Neighbourhood Centre. Free event open to the public

Sugarvalley Neighbourhood Centre

65 Carrington Street, West Wallsend

16 April, 10am-1pm Create your own acrylic artwork reflecting on which what it means to be young in the West Wallsend area. Proudly presented by Sugarvalley Neighbourhood Advancement Centre Inc For bookings call 4953 1667

Raw Challenge

110 Pacific Highway, Doyalson

17 April, 10.30am-2.30pm

Southlake Community Services will deliver the Youth Raw Challenge during Youth Week 2019. They propose taking twenty five young people to the Raw Challenge course at Doyalson to engage them in a range of team building and personal challenge activities over the 7 km long course. 11 April, 10am-2pm Lake Macquarie Youth Advisory Council in partnership with Community Activities Lake Macquarie are hosting the Lake Macquarie Youth Forum. High School leaders from across Lake Macquarie will come together to discuss issues relevant to young people and identify what they would like to see achieved for young people of the area.
