Parking is an essential component of our transport network, and plays a key role in the function of the City. Getting parking right is essential to creating vibrant and liveable economic centres.
We developed the Lake Mac Parking Strategy to improve the way parking within our economic centres is managed. The strategy aims to find the balance between parking, and other modes of transport. It supports people who need to drive, and will improve infrastructure to encourage more people to walk, cycle, or use public transport.
As we implement the Parking Strategy, we’re investigating new ways to provide a better picture of how existing public car parks are used.
The first trial underway is of three ‘sensor pods’ at Council’s Administration Building, which detect whether a vehicle is present or not and when.
