Welcome to Lake Mac

Lake Macquarie City is a great place to live, work and play. If you are new to the area there is loads to explore, including our beautiful lake, patrolled beaches, family-friendly shared pathways, swim centres and cultural facilities such as the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and our network of Lake Mac Libraries.

You can update your name and address details, and don't forget you must enrol with the Australian Electoral Commission within four to seven weeks of relocating to your new address. It's important to keep your enrolment up to date to ensure your name is included on the correct roll if an election is called, and to retain your right to vote. Enrolment forms are available from the Australian Electoral Commission.

Waste

Council operates a three-bin system (waste, recycling, green waste) collected on a fortnightly cycle, and we operate a bulk waste collection service for all households twice a year. Council works with local companies to provide specialised waste disposal for other household items, such as e-waste, batteries, light globes, mobile phones, motor oil, fridges and hazardous waste.

Pets

It is essential for pet owners to microchip and register dogs and cats. Microchipping needs to be done by the time your dog or cat is 12 weeks old, and registration by six months old.

When taking your dog out for a walk, you must ensure your pet is under effective control and securely held on a lead by a competent person. Council has set aside 29 off-leash dog exercise areas throughout Lake Mac City where your dog can run free, however it must be under constant supervision.

Parks and playgrounds

Lake Mac City is home to many great parks and playgrounds, including the award-winning Lake Macquarie Variety Playground at Speers Point.

Sustainability programs

Aimed to help improve Lake Macquarie’s natural environment, Council runs a series of programs to engage residents to participate in better sustainable practices at home, in the workplace or in their community.

Emergency ready

Register for emergency alerts for your area via SMS or email with the Australian Early Warning Network (EWN) to receive free warnings for events such as severe storms, hail, flash floods and damaging winds as well as total fire bans and bushfire threats. This is a privately run system, which Council subsidises for its residents, businesses, schools, community groups, emergency service workers and employees.

Certificates

Section 603 certificate

A Section 603 Rating Certificate specifies any outstanding rates, charges and debts payable to Council in relation to a property. You may apply for a Section 603 Certificate at any time, but a certificate is often needed before a property settlement. Fees apply. You must first register with us to apply a Section 603 certificate online. Registration can take up to one business day to process.

149 planning certificates

Under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, a Section 149 Planning Certificate is deemed mandatory when purchasing a property. It is a certificate that details the development potential of a parcel of land including the planning restrictions that apply to the land.
There are two types of 149 Planning Certificates; 149 (2) and 149 (2&5). Fees apply.

Outstanding notices certificate

An Outstanding Notices & Orders Certificate lists any outstanding notices and orders issued by Council in relation to a particular property. It includes notices issued under Section 735A of the Local Government Act 1993 and orders issued under Section 121ZP of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The certificate also includes any outstanding notices and orders issued under the provisions of any other Act under which it is authorised to do so. Notices issued might include unauthorised building works, stormwater works, or unsafe or unhealthy conditions.

Property Enquiry is the Council’s tool for viewing information on conditions that apply to land and property, including permitted development and maps.

Property Owners

The names shown for property owners are based on those shown on the Certificate of Title. If you want to change these details, you will need to contact Land and Property Information or your legal representative.
