Speers Point to Glendale shared pathway

Background

The Speers Point to Glendale shared pathway is part of the Council-adopted Cycling Strategy 2021(PDF, 24MB), which aims to provide a connected, safe and functional bicycle network across Lake Macquarie City.

When complete, this shared pathway will link with the Glendale to Wallsend rail trail, which connects Lake Macquarie residents to bike routes that can take them to many suburbs in Newcastle and community facilities such as the University of Newcastle.

When will the works occur?

The intersection of Lake Road and Princess Street is now complete. The upgrade includes pedestrian activated signals to assist pathway users to cross Princess Street and Lake Road.

Works on the pedestrian bridge on Lake Road are underway, and we expect the bridge and approaches to be completed by late May 2020.

In late April, works will start on a section of the pathway from Lake Road to Frederick Street adjacent to the golf course. This section is expected to take four months to complete, weather permitting.

How might this affect you?

Council carefully plans this work and considers how it will affect the community. Every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience to residents; however, during construction there may be some unavoidable temporary impacts such as:

  • excavation work on roads and footpaths;
  • potential noise and dust;
  • construction traffic in the area;
  • fencing of sites and equipment to ensure community safety; and
  • traffic and parking access may be temporarily restricted.

Residents directly affected by the works will be contacted with further information.
