Speers Point to Glendale shared pathway

Background

Once complete, this 2.5km shared pathway between Speers Point and Glendale will link to the Wallsend Rail Trail, connecting cyclists in Lake Macquarie to bike routes that can take them to suburbs in Newcastle and community facilities such as the University of Newcastle.

Works update

The intersection of Lake Road and Queens Street is now complete, with a continuous footpath treatment implemented at this intersection. This is a first for our City and this gives pedestrians priority across roads.

Construction is ongoing for the pedestrian bridge, and we expect it will be completed in late 2020.

We are well underway with the construction of the section of the pathway from Lake Road to Frederick Street adjacent to the golf course.  The golf ball fence is currently being installed in conjunction with the pathway.  Once completed the golf ball fence will protect pedestrians from any stray golf balls from the golf course. Due to such a wet winter, we are anticipating this section will be completed and accessible in late 2020.

Works will recommence on Lake Road once the golf course section is completed.
