The upgrade to Pearson Street Mall will encourage more activity, offer places and different options for people to connect, enjoy safely and keep returning.
Works are progressing well on the revitalisation of the Mall, and are on-track for completion in early 2021. So far, our contractor, Collaborative Construction Solutions, has commenced demolition, excavation, stormwater and in-ground electrical works to the central area.
Over the coming weeks, they plan to continue to install footings for the Smart Poles, lay paving, construct raised planter boxers and continue stormwater drainage works.
CCTV security within Pearson Street Mall
As part of the Mall’s revitalisation, we will be improving security by installing several CCTV cameras within the area. The purpose of the CCTV is to help prevent anti-social behaviour and crime within the Mall.
We engaged a security consultant to perform a security audit of the Mall based on community feedback received during consultation regarding issues of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. The security consultant findings and Lake Macquarie Police were both supportive of the installation of CCTV within the Mall.
The CCTV proposed will be installed and used in line with Council policies and procedures.
Stage of works
The work will be undertaken in three stages to minimise disruptions to businesses and the community. We are currently completing Stage One of the works.
