The Local Approvals Policy outlines low-impact activities that generally require approval from Council under the Local Government Act, as well as activities that are exempt. 

The current policy was adopted by Council on 12 December 2022. The policy is reviewed within 12 months after a local government election, or when otherwise needed.

Activities exempt from approval

The following activities do not require Council approval, provided that they comply with the Local Approvals Policy criteria.

Please read the Policy for the specific rules for each activity. If you are unsure if your proposed activity is exempt, contact Council.

  • Installation of manufactured homes and movable dwellings on specified sites
  • Busking and street theatre performances
  • Footway trading (displaying goods for sale on the footpath)
  • Sports clubs charging a fee for spectators on community land
  • Waste management (refer to Waste and recycling)
  • Domestic grey water diversion
  • Installation of a wood heater

Activities that require local approval

Council has developed online application forms for most activities that require a local approval under the Local Approvals Policy.
