Lake Macquarie Variety Playground's timber play structure closed
Published on 10 July 2020
From today, Friday 10 July 2020, the timber play structure at Speers Point Park’s Lake Macquarie Variety Playground will be closed to ensure the safety of our community.
The structure, originally constructed in 2008, is scheduled for an upgrade this financial year; however, a recent inspection found it has deteriorated to a point where it is unsafe for use.
Council is currently working on designs to replace the structure, with construction expected to be completed this financial year.
Council manages and maintains more than 123 playgrounds. We inspect our playgrounds on a regular basis to ensure they are safe and continue to meet the needs of our community.
In 2020-2021, we will spend $19.8 million for new and improved parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities and swim centres across the City.
