Swim centre to reopen following $6.5 million refurbishment

Toronto Swim Centre will reopen its doors to the community this week following a multi-million dollar renovation.
The $6.5 million revamp included retiling of all pools, a new combined hydrotherapy and spa pool, a new entry and kiosk, new training room, pool resurfacing, new stairs and refurbished amenities.
The works also involved replacing the swim centre’s filtration and disinfection systems, and the installation of new solar roof panels and insulation in the facility.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser will officially open the facility at a Community Fun Day on Saturday 19 October.
The 10am-1pm event will feature free pool entry, activities, giveaways and a sausage sizzle. Former Australian swimmer and Olympic medallist James Magnussen will also join in on the pool action and help celebrate the opening of the refurbished facility.
“Toronto Swim Centre has been such a valued and important resource in the community for many years,” Cr Fraser said.
“It’s fantastic to have it back, better than ever and equipped to serve its thousands of annual visitors for many years to come.
“We would like to thank the Westlakes community for their patience during the renovations.
“I can’t wait to join the community to celebrate the reopening of this popular facility ahead of the busy summer season.”
First Splashes Founder Ben Jenkinson has been operating out of Toronto Swim Centre since 2005.
“With the refurbishment now complete, our members will have access to a brand new facility for all their swimming needs, whether it is learning to swim, daily exercise or simply recreation,” Mr Jenkinson said.
“We hope everyone will join us at the community fun day to enjoy the new facility and a family day out.”
The overhaul began in August 2018 to bring the facility into line with community expectations.
