We have a huge weekend of action coming up with a number of events and celebrations happening around Lake Macquarie. It is a very special time of year that offers us a chance to really showcase what our city can do.

The big drawcard and highlight will be the return of the Superboat Championships to our gorgeous lake, with the competition revving up over both Saturday and Sunday. I always love seeing our community and visitors gather around the edges of our lake to take in the sights and sounds of what is a massive weekend of competition. Make sure you get there early to get the best spot lakeside. It is always an amazing weekend and there is just as much happening off the water as on it this year.  With markets, food stalls, entertainment and the Lake Mac PWC Race Series returning, there will be action from Eleebana right around to Marmong Point.

Community events like the Superboat Championships bring so much vibrancy to our City. They add colour and activate our lake foreshore unlike anything else, and importantly they bring our community and visitors together to celebrate what we love about Lake Mac. I hope you can join me for what will be another incredible weekend.

On Saturday, we will also celebrate the completion of the $6.5 million redevelopment of Toronto Swim Centre with a community open day. The project has given the centre a new lease of life and it’s looking great. The community day starts from 10am and includes free entry to the pool, activities for the kids and a drop in from James Magnusson.

The 2019 Fernleigh 15 is on back again too this Sunday. It is a popular event not only for runners but also for anyone who is looking for a fun day out, regardless of their ability. If you haven’t registered yet, don’t worry registrations are open right up until Sunday. Visit for more.

Finally, this weekend the food and organics facility at the Awaba Waste Management Facility is opening its gates to provide free trailer loads of compost to Lake Mac residents. It’s perfect timing for sprucing up our gardens in spring, but you must register for a time slot. Visit

Nominate for the Lake Mac Awards

If you know of a Lake Macquarie resident or group who uses their skills and passions to contribute to sport, art, volunteering, community or environmental enhancement then make sure you nominate them for the City's highest honour, a Lake Mac Award.

There are thousands of people in our City who inspire us through their achievements and contribution to life in Lake Mac. It’s important to recognise these people because they challenge us to think about how we can all make our own contribution to creating a better and more caring society. Nominations can be made at and close on Thursday 31 October.
