Fully enclosed shoes that cover the entire foot, up to the ankle and with no heel or toe holes (eg. no sandals, thongs, high heels or clogs) must be worn at all times when you visit the Awaba Waste Management Facility.

At the Awaba Waste Management Facility, you can dispose of:

  • household waste including mattresses (extra charges apply)
  • garden waste
  • decomposable waste including food
  • building and demolition waste including bricks, concrete, timber and glass
  • asbestos waste that has been safety secured under our disposal requirement
  • Synthetic Mineral Fibre wastes (eg. insulation batts), securely wrapped that will remain intact during disposal

Council charges customers according to the weight and type of waste to be disposed.

Please be aware you cannot dispose of hazardous waste, liquid waste and industrial waste at the Awaba Waste Management Facility.

Conditions of entry

The Awaba Waste Management Facility has conditions of entry to ensure on-site safety of all customers, visitors and staff.

All customers on site are required to be weighed in and out of the facility, apart from the use of the Community Recycling Centre.

The weighbridge operator will provide instructions for customers to follow, as well as a ticket recording the transaction usage for the site.

The following conditions apply to both the Awaba Waste Management Facility and the Community Recycling Centre. Failure to comply with the below conditions may result in offending persons being denied entry or barred from the site.

  • All speed limit signs, and safety signs must be obeyed
  • Reduce speed in wet weather
  • Wear fully enclosed shoes at all times that cover the entire foot, up to the ankle and with no heel or toe holes (eg. no sandals, thongs, high heels or clogs)
  • Appropriate clothing must be worn at all times
  • Children must remain inside your vehicle and be properly supervised at all times
  • No smoking is permitted on any part of the site
  • Respect and courtesy is to be shown to all staff
  • All vehicles disposing of waste must weigh-in on entry and weigh-out on exit
  • All loads must remain secure and covered until reaching the disposal location

Weighbridge tickets for vehicle weights

Awaba Waste Management Facility Weighbridge is able to issue weighbridge tickets to determine the tare mass of a vehicle or trailer for registration purposes, for a fee of $50 incl GST.

Tours for schools and community groups

Schools and community groups are welcome to tour the Organics Resource Recovery Facility.

Your visit will include a tour of the facility plus an educational talk about waste management and the organics processing facility.

Tours run throughout the year and are suitable for adults, and children 7 years and older. School groups from Year 2 and up are recommended.
