Work experience

We offer high school, TAFE and university students the opportunity to undertake work experience placements at Council.

These placements are a great opportunity to learn from our staff and gain new skills and on-the-job experience.

Work experience opportunities are available across many Council departments that deliver a wide variety of services and operations, including:

  • Arts, Culture and Tourism (Lake Macquarie Libraries, Museum of Art and Culture yapang, Multi-Arts Pavillion mima, events and tourism, marketing and management)
  • Asset Management (city and community infrastructure asset management)
  • Business Information and Technology Solutions (information technology)
  • Capital Works Program (strategic infrastructure planning)
  • City Projects (architectural and landscape design, project management, surveying, civil engineering)
  • City Works (maintenance work, construction, automotive workshop, plant and fleet management, signwriting)
  • Communications and Corporate Strategy (marketing, public relations, communications, graphic design, governance)
  • Community Partnerships (social and community planning, family day care, sustainability engagement, community facilities management)
  • Customer Experience (customer service, records management, print and graphic design, access to information)
  • Development Assessment and Certification (inspections, development application and subdivision assessment, building certification)
  • Environmental Regulation and Compliance (development compliance, health inspections, rangers)
  • Environmental Systems (ecosystems enhancement, climate change adaption, conservation management)

  • Integrated Planning (urban planning, land use planning, urban design)
