Community Environment Grants

Round two 2019-2020 is now closed. Applications closed Monday 23 March 2020.

The Lake Mac Community Environment Grants Program, formerly known as Environmental Sustainability Grants Program, is designed to support community-initiated projects that improve our local environment and inspire environmentally sustainable behaviour in Lake Macquarie City.

Not-for-profit community organisations such as groups, clubs and school parents and citizens associations located or operating within Lake Macquarie City are eligible to apply. Grants of up to $5,000 per application are available. The number of grant applications funded per round is limited.

Here's how to apply:

Step 1.Consider your project

Sustainability is not just about veggie gardens and compost bins. Think broadly about what your group could do to:

  • encourage sustainable community behaviour, like reducing resource consumption or increasing participation in active transport
  • reduce food or general waste, or encourage the community to recycle, upcycle or swap
  • educate, enrich and inspire the community through sustainable activities
  • reduce the carbon footprint of the Lake Macquarie community
  • improve biodiversity and local ecosystems

Note: New this round, applicants can apply to use grant funding to pay for environmental education and training workshops (for example, to engage expert presenters).

Step 2.Review our guidelines

Take a moment to familiarise yourself with the grant guidelines(PDF, 781KB) to ensure your application has the best chance of success.

Step 3.Attend an information session

Information sessions are held during each funding round, giving interested applicants an opportunity to learn more about the application process. These information sessions are optional but attendance is encouraged. The next information session is on Tuesday 25 February 2020. Bookings are essential.

Step 4.Apply

The grants are offered twice a year. Round two 2019-2020 closed Monday 23 March 2020.
