PRESS PLAY: a week of fun
Join us for a week of summer events and activities at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima in Speers Point Park.
From 15 to 21 January, the lawns of the new Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima (MAP mima) will be transformed into a dreamy underwater garden with giant starfish, turtles and technicolour sea creatures that beckon you to come out and play. Take a ferry ride across the lake and arrive for a magical picnic, listen to an open-air concert or set off on a story quest.
The fun begins on the Saturday 15 January with Ocean Garden. Wander around this wonderful installation of larger-than-life inflatable sea creatures, or join their makers, Maurice and Matt from Goldberg Aberline Studio for a workshop to tap into your own creative flow.
As the sun goes down, the MAP mima stage will open up for a special concert featuring the first-ever performance of Andy Firth’s MAP mima Fanfare. This captivating and joyous piece of music celebrates the arrival of the new arts pavilion in Lake Macquarie City. Join us for this unique work that thunders like a storm and sparkles like the lake. After the performance, stay on for an evening light show and disco with DJ Pucko.
On Sunday 16 January, Catapult takes to the MAP mima stage with the final performance of their astounding contemporary dance piece, Drift.
Throughout the week the fun continues with kids yoga, story time and drawing sessions, art workshops, markets, roving performers and more. Explore the new Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima and immerse yourself in our 360-degree audiovisual experience EMERGE by Plugin HUMAN.
And just when you think it’s over, Speers Point Park brings you the Lake Mac Festival from 22 to 23 January.
