Closing Celebration Marikit Santiago: We Eat This Bread

Come along to MAC yapang on Sunday 17 September as we celebrate the closing of Marikit Santiago's exhibition We Eat This Bread with a 'Huling Hapunan' (translation 'Last Supper'), a relaxed family friendly afternoon of activities by the lake. 

Meet Marikit in person and chat to her about her work, listen to the tunes of Filipino artist/ performer Esky Escandor and DJ MNGNY, and Filipinana performer Marissa Saroca, enjoy artmaking activities with an art museum educator, and delicious traditional Filipino food.

About the artist

Marikit Santiago is a Filipina Australian artist, three-time Archibald Prize finalist and 2020 winner of the prestigious John Sulman Prize. Her solo exhibition We Eat This Bread is currently on view at MAC yapang, and presents a series of works that showcase the 'Last Supper,' extending the story to consider the rituals, traditions and structures that shape their cultural and social identity. 

About the musicians

Esky Escandor, a seasoned rapper and community organiser, joins forces with MNGNY, a visionary DJ and global connector, to create a dynamic musical duo. Both hailing from Filipino heritage, they represent the organization opnsrc.co, a Western Sydney-based arts collective known for curating memorable art shows all over Sydney. Esky, with over a decade in the rap scene, uses his lyrical prowess to address social issues and unite communities. MNGNY, known for providing a platform for all artist across the Pacific and Asia. Together, they bring a fresh new sound whilst inspiring positive change with every beat.
