Some of our services are taking a short break over Christmas and the New Year. There are no waste, recycling and green waste collections on Christmas Day. All waste collections between Wednesday 25-Friday 27 December will occur a day later than usual.
Our Customer Service Centre is temporarily located at Speers Point Library, adjacent to Council's Administration Building.
The Community History Department is publicly accessible, located within Speers Point Library. Knowledgeable staff members are on hand to provide basic research assistance and to aide in the preservation and retrieval of a range of local and family history related hardcopy and electronic resources. Genealogists visiting the library are able to use the service’s online subscriptions to access Ancestry.com, FindMyPast and the British Newspaper Archive. The Community History Department also retains an entire back run of the Newcastle Herald on microfilm. Those family history researchers requiring extra assistance may also be interested in scheduling one-on-one family history lessons provided by staff members (Bookings: 49210541). Recently the department expanded its scope to incorporate the use of a dynamic online interface. The dedicated Lake Macquarie Community History website is now live at history.lakemac.com.au
