General information

The health and safety of residents, customers and employees is our top priority.

Our Business Continuity and Resilience Team comprising leaders from across the organisation is working together daily to coordinate Council’s response to COVID-19.

Stay up to date

The Australia Government Department of Health and NSW Health provide daily updates on their websites.

You can also learn more about protective measures against coronavirus from the World Health Organization and read the ‘What you need to know’ and ‘Isolation guidance’ information sheets.

NSW Health advice:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
  • Stay home if you can
  • Avoid crowds and practice social distancing.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade is also updating the Smartraveller website every day.

Newcastle Transport advice for public transport around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie:

  • Check the capacity of your service at newcastletransport.info
  • Wear a face mask on public transport
  • Sit or stand on a green dot
Wearing a fitted face mask is not currently mandatory on Newcastle/Lake Macquarie public transport as it is on Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Wollongong public transport, however it is strongly recommended. If physical distancing is difficult to maintain, wearing a face mask can provide some protection so long as people continue to abide by other measures.

Looking after our staff

The health and wellbeing of all our employees is really important to us. We've been regularly communicating with staff about how we can all keep healthy and avoid transmitting COVID-19 at work, and we have reviewed our cleaning programs to increase our cleaning frequency. We're also implementing a range of measures to allow our staff to work from home or other locations to promote safe working environments.
