State of the Environment

The State of the Environment Report contains information regarding the current condition of the environment of the city, the pressures being placed on the environment and the management responses to these pressures. It is an effective tool for environmental management and education.

The report has been structured into seven environmental sectors: towards environmental sustainability, human settlements, land, atmosphere, water, biodiversity and heritage.

The State of the Environment Report is an annual report required by the Local Government Act 1993. In accordance with the requirements of the Act a 'comprehensive' report is required every four years after the local government election. A 'supplementary' report is required every other year. A comprehensive report contains more detailed information than a supplementary report and monitors trends with previous reports.
