A visit from Newcastle Jets captain Jobe Wheelhouse, an outdoor movie, and refreshments and amusements were all part of the celebrations when the new sporting amenities building at Finnan Oval officially opened on Friday 17 August.
Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Cr Greg Piper MP, said the new building is a great asset for the Blackalls Park sporting community.
“The Blackalls Park Community Operating Committee and its predecessors have done a great job in managing this facility over the years,” Mayor Piper said.
The $600,000 project was funded, designed, and project managed by Council as part of its Sports Facility Strategy Construction Program.
The work involved renovation of the old amenities and addition of dressing rooms and storage areas. The finished building has two dressing rooms, a refitted canteen, sports storage areas, a disabled toilet, a referees’ room, and public toilets.
The official opening was part of a fundraising movie night for the Toronto Awaba Junior Football Club.
Finnan Oval is also home to the Toronto Hotel Magpies Cricket Club (THMCC).
