West Wallsend celebrates new facilities

A new amenities building, dual-use netball/basketball court and carpark for users of Gregory Park West Wallsend was officially opened on Saturday 11 August.
Using funds from Lake Macquarie City Council’s Sports Facility Strategy Construction Program and developer contributions, the old facility was demolished and a new building incorporating two dressing rooms, a canteen, three sports storage areas, a disabled toilet, referees room, public toilets, a 30 bay sealed car park, and a full-size dual-use netball/basketball court was constructed.
Lake Macquarie Deputy Mayor, Councillor Wendy Harrison, said the facilities are a welcome boost for West Wallsend.
“I am delighted for the local sporting clubs at West Wallsend to have access to these modern, high quality facilities,” Cr Harrison said.
“I would also like to acknowledge the work of the Gregory Park Community Operating Committee, whose dedicated members do a wonderful job in managing the facilities.”
The full size, dual use netball/basketball court is the first of its kind constructed by Council in Lake Macquarie. If successful at West Wallsend, similar courts will be built at other locations in the future.
The overall cost of the project was approximately $1 million, including $80,000 from developer contributions for the netball/basketball court.
The facilities were designed, project managed, and constructed by Lake Macquarie City Council.
