Landcare

What is Landcare?

Landcare is a volunteer organisation devoted to caring for the environment in a hands-on and practical way.

Landcare is supported by all levels of government and Lake Macquarie City Council is leading the way at the local level.

Over 250 Landcare groups work on a wide range of projects around our city.  Individuals and groups may work in urban or rural areas, on the coast, by the lake, in the bush, along riparian zones, and even in the Landcare Resource Office.

What do Landcare groups do?

Landcare groups are typically a group of neighbours with a common interest in managing or maintaining some part of the environment around their home.

Groups may do a range of activities from removing weeds from a local patch of bush through to stabilising the coast or lake foreshore. Most groups meet on a semi-regular basis, which is determined by the level of interest in the group.

What resources are available for landcare projects?

There is a range of resources available for groups and individuals. Checkout the Landcare Resources webpage for downloads, links, and a list of other resources available through the Landcare Resource Office.
