Do I need to register my cat or dog?
- Response:
-
The date that you became the owner of your cat or dog will determine if the animal needs to be registered.
If you got your cat before 1 July 1999:
- Your animal must have a microchip or a collar and ID tag.
- Your animal does not have to be registered with your local council.
If you got your cat or dog after 1 July 1999:
- Your animal must be microchipped by 12 weeks of age for lifetime identification.
- Your animal must be lifetime registered with a local council by six months of age.
For futher information on your responsibilities as a cat and/or owner, visit the Department of Local Government website.
