Last chance to apply for an enviro grant!

Date Posted: 5 September 2012

Does your community group have an idea that will improve your local environment and inspire a more sustainable community?

If so, it’s time to prepare an application for a Lake Macquarie City Council environmental sustainability grant.

Council’s Manager Sustainability, Alice Howe, said she is looking forward to seeing what innovative projects could be on the agenda for Lake Macquarie.

“We have grants of up to $3,000 available for not-for-profit organisations such as community groups, clubs, or schools who wish to deliver a new environmental project in 2013,” Dr Howe said.

Projects to receive support in the past include school and community gardens, murals and signage, solar panels, water tanks and community workshops.

Following the last round of grants decided in May 2012, work is underway on a community garden at the Sugarvalley Neighbourhood Centre in West Wallsend.

The group received $2500 to establish a garden that includes a BBQ, seating area, water tank, and compost and worm farm facilities.

The garden will provide an outdoor area for residents to meet and learn hands-on skills for sustainable living.

Anyone wanting tips on preparing their application is encouraged to attend an information session at Council’s Administration Centre at Speers Point on Tuesday 21 August at 5.30pm.

Grant applications close 4.30pm, Monday 10 September 2012.

For guidelines, application forms and further information go to www.lakemac.com.au/environment/grants/sustainability.

Council encourages all potential applicants to contact its Customer Service Centre on 4921 0333 or by email council@lakemac.nsw.gov.au to discuss their application.

The Lake Macquarie Environmental Sustainability Grants are offered twice each year.  The next round closes March 2013.
