Lake Mac youth rock to take centre stage

The Lake Macquarie Youth Advisory Council (LMYAC) will host its first local under-18s band night on Thursday 21 June at The Place, Charlestown.
LMYAC event organiser, Karina Coutts, said the group is excited to be hosting the night.
“The event is a great, affordable way to see young local musical talent – five local bands will be showcased for just five dollars,” Ms Coutts said.
“The bands are The Tillegra Damned, Paradise Found, Fallin Angel, Swallow Your Pride, and The Carousel.
“Proceeds from the event will go towards the next Youth Advisory Council event.
“We’ve been researching what young people like and dislike about Lake Macquarie, and one of the things they dislike is the lack of events for people under 18.
“One of the Youth Advisory Council’s roles is to develop local initiatives and projects for young local people, and the band night is the first of several things we have planned over the next 12 months.”
Lake Macquarie City Council’s Youth and Safety Community Planner, Ray Austin, added that the event will be a much-needed boost for young people in the city.
“I am sure the youth council will do an excellent job in making this a great event for those aged under 18,” Mr Austin said.
“The event is drug and alcohol free, and it will be fully supervised with security staff on-site. There will be no pass outs and behaviour will be monitored.”
