Get the bite on vampires at Charlestown library

When teacher, Tony Thompson, couldn’t get his students to put down the Twilightbooks and listen in class, he began to tell them about the predecessors of the series’ star, Edward.  They were so interested in the topic that Tony recorded his research in a book for teenagers, Vampires: The Un-history of the Undead.

Now, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle residents can hear all about the birth of his book, with Charlestown Library set to host An Evening With Tony Thompson, on Tuesday 19 June at 6.30pm.

Lake Macquarie City Library Section Manager, Jo Smith, said this is an exciting opportunity for readers of vampire books and film fans of the genre.

“This session will be a fascinating insight into the vampire’s depiction and development in books, movies, and television,” Ms Smith said.

“Tony will explore the legend of vampires from the outset – how they were modelled on the man considered the world’s first celebrity.  He will also talk about Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula, and the many vampire hunters and slayers from films and television series.”

An Evening With Tony Thompson is proudly presented by Lake Macquarie City Library and Newcastle Regional Library as part of their National Year of Reading program.
