Transport & Access

Road

  • Lake Macquarie is conveniently located on the F3 Freeway only 90 minutes north of Sydney.
  • Excellent road networks provide access to the Central West of NSW via the New England Highway, and to the Northern Tablelands, Mid North, and Northern Coastal regions of New South Wales via the Pacific Highway.

Bus

  • Lake Macquarie has a well-established intra-regional bus transport system.
  • The State Transit Authority of NSW has a depot at Belmont and they provide extensive routes throughout the city day and night.
  • Private bus transport providers include Sugar Valley Coachlines servicing the West Wallsend and Edgeworth routes, Toronto Bus Services servicing the Toronto and Fassifern areas, plus Morisset Bus Service and Cooranbong Bus Service operating in the Morisset area.

Air

  • Newcastle Airport is located at Williamtown a 25 minute drive north of Lake Macquarie.
  • Six airlines operate from the terminal including Virgin Blue, QantasLink, Jetstar, Brindabella, Aeropelican, and Newcastle Helicopters.
  • Daily services operate to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Frequent services run throughout the week to Canberra and the Gold Coast.

Rail

  • RailCorp provides passenger rail transport to Lake Macquarie via CityRail and CountryLink services. CityRail services covering the greater Sydney region are available to Lake Macquarie on an hourly basis stopping at Morisset, Fassifern, and Cardiff.
  • CountryLink is a passenger rail service covering country and long distance services from Lake Macquarie. All CountryLink services to and from the North Coast and Northern Tablelands stop at Fassifern, Broadmeadow, and Newcastle.
